As someone who’s been in your shoes — leading teams, making tough calls, and navigating the challenges of the working world — I know firsthand what leadership really requires. I spent 15 years leading marketing teams at companies like Microsoft and Moen, diving into every leadership program I could find. 

But here’s the thing: none of them truly prepared me for the realities of leadership.

How do you put someone on a performance improvement plan with compassion? Fire someone while maintaining their dignity? Deliver results after losing budget or headcount?

That’s why I founded What You Do Matters. With a Master’s in Positive Organizational Development & Change, I combine the Hero’s Journey framework with practical strategies to arm leaders with the tools they need to navigate their own leadership trials + triumphs.

  • Every great story begins with a call to step into something greater. This week, you’ll embrace your role as the protagonist of your leadership story by mastering six core leadership behaviors:

  • Before leading others, you must lead yourself. These two weeks focus on building the habits and self-awareness that lay the foundation for impactful leadership:

    • Prioritizing the Right Work: Identify high-impact tasks and focus on what truly matters.

    • Setting a Clear Vision: Define a personal and team vision to guide your actions.

    • Role Clarity: Understand your responsibilities and set clear expectations.

    • Compassion in Action: Balance empathy with accountability to support your team.

    • Effective Communication: Build trust through clear and transparent communication.

  • No hero succeeds alone. These weeks are about arming yourself and your team with the touchpoints, clarity, and alignment needed for success:

    • Help your team understand their roles, building both autonomy and accountability.

    • Establish consistent team touchpoints, such as 1:1s and group check-ins, to maintain alignment.

    • Increase transparency so everyone understands the bigger picture.

    • Learn key HR processes like performance management and succession planning to drive team growth.

  • Yes! One of the unique benefits of this program is the diverse range of industries represented, offering you the chance to learn from a variety of perspectives and experiences.

  • Program materials are available for one year, starting from the program's kickoff. At the end of the year, you’ll have the option to purchase an additional year to remain in the community and retain access to all resources, including the recordings and digital workbook.

  • The weekly commitment includes a 75-minute live session and about 1–2 hours for reflection, exercises, or pre-session preparation.

  • There is no refund policy for this program because of the significant planning, resources, and time invested in ensuring each cohort’s success. If you’re unable to attend, session recordings will be provided, but we strongly encourage attending live to fully engage in the discussions and exercises for the best experience.

  • Yes, all live sessions are recorded and shared with participants. However, attending live is highly encouraged to get the most out of the interactive, experiential aspects of the program and to fully connect with your cohort members.

  • Unlike generic programs, Leading Through Complexity focuses on the 10 leadership complexities every leader faces, using the Hero’s Journey framework to guide you through both challenges and growth. It combines practical tools, experiential learning, and year-long support for sustained success.

  • Each week blends learning and application. Live sessions are almost entirely experiential, with minimal pre-reading or theory. This ensures you’re practicing what you learn in real time and applying it to your leadership journey.

  • There are no scholarships, but discounts may be available for teams enrolling multiple participants. Reach out to Brittany to learn more.

  • You’ll complete a pre- and post-program assessment to map your growth across the 10 leadership competencies. This helps track your progress and identify areas of focus.

  • Yes! You’ll join a small, interactive cohort and have access to a dedicated community space for networking, peer knowledge sharing, and group support for a full year.

  • One week before the program begins enrolled participants will receive access to our program platform, resources, call links & more. Prior to our first session participants will be asked to set up their profile in our program platform, add each week’s calls to their calendar & take a pre-program assessment. We also recommend that participants carve out a few moments to reflect on their current leadership challenges and goals to help make the most of the program right from the start.
