Perception: Why Your Perception of Me is a Reflection of You
Your perception of me is a reflection of you; my reaction to you is an awareness of me.
This quote popped up in my social feeds about a month ago when my friend Sara shared it and ever since its profoundness has stuck in my mind. Today more than ever, this quote came back full circle for me. How many times have we been trapped in other's skewed perceptions of us? I know that for me, I've had this happen often and I've equally been on the flip side where I've had a skewed perception of others. This quote is so compelling because it strikes through to the heart of perception.
Perception is merely just that -- it's the stories we tell ourselves combined with how we interpret our interactions with others and the associated meanings we tag those interactions with. Long story short -- perception is about the person doing the perceiving and the lens in which they see their world.
Remember this the next time you yourself are perceiving a person or situation and check yourself. Ask yourself if it's really the truth or if maybe you need to uncover a bit more to see the whole picture. I know this is something that I will continually be working on myself {because we're all far from perfect, right?}
How do you keep your perceptions in check?
