Perception: Why Your Perception of Me is a Reflection of You

Your perception of me is a reflection of you; my reaction to you is an awareness of me.

This quote popped up in my social feeds about a month ago when my friend Sara shared it and ever since its profoundness has stuck in my mind. ⁣ ⁣Today more than ever, this quote came back full circle for me. How many times have we been trapped in other's skewed perceptions of us? I know that for me, I've had this happen often and I've equally been on the flip side where I've had a skewed perception of others. This quote is so compelling because it strikes through to the heart of perception.

Perception is merely just that -- it's the stories we tell ourselves combined with how we interpret our interactions with others and the associated meanings we tag those interactions with. Long story short -- perception is about the person doing the perceiving and the lens in which they see their world.⁣ ⁣

Remember this the next time you yourself are perceiving a person or situation and check yourself. Ask yourself if it's really the truth or if maybe you need to uncover a bit more to see the whole picture. I know this is something that I will continually be working on myself {because we're all far from perfect, right?} ⁣ ⁣

How do you keep your perceptions in check?
